Two Shell ‘ꫀꪻꫀ᥅ꪀꪖꪶᦓꫀꫀᦔ’ (Self-released)
It was to the delight of heads everywhere when this elusive duo dropped their spiritual sequel to January’s ‘Home’ in the form of one fluid 21-minute track. A clear love letter to the vibrance of UK dance music and rave culture, the mixtape spans through breaks, atmospheric basslines and grindy synths. Packed to the brim of naughty voice notes, delicious stabby drums, gratifying R&B rips and stratospheric bleeps and bloops — it makes for some engrossing club fodder full of depth and disarray. The brilliant thing about ‘ꫀꪻꫀ᥅ꪀꪖꪶᦓꫀꫀᦔ’ is its playful experimentation. Running along its imperfections and crunchy samples there are breakout beats that constantly leave you feeling two or three steps behind, but catchy and energetic enough to remain approachable. Also extra points for the chipmunk edit of Miley Cyrus’ ‘Boom de Clap’, simply inspired.

Finn ‘Everything is Alright’ (2 B Real)
There are three of things you can pretty much guarantee from a Finn release: wicked samples, euphoria tinged with just the right amount of sadness, and that you’ll be itching to hear it on a big soundsystem as soon as possible. Described as “9 tracks of Manchester House Jams,” the mixtape feels like the spiritual sequel to the Manchester-based DJ and producer’s 2021 EP ‘A Good Place’ — a morose record written in the depths of lockdown. Whereas ‘Everything Is Alright’ is a fresh spring day, full of bright and airy melodies and blissed out vocals, with a naughty bassline here and there for good measure — it feels like a celebration, albeit a cautious one, that our dancefloors are back, we’re all seeing our mates again and we finally have a summer to look forward to. Honestly maybe everything is going to be alright pals!
