RAYE makes history as first artist to take home six BRIT Awards in one year

The London-based artist has broken the previous record of four — held by Harry Styles, Adele and Blur

RAYE makes history as first artist to take home six BRIT Awards in one year

RAYE has made history by taking home a whopping six BRIT Awards at this year’s ceremony on Saturday (March 2).

The previous record was held by Harry Styles, Adele and Blur — all winning four Brit awards in a year.

This year’s BRIT Awards also saw 70% of winning acts identify as female or non-binary marking a significant charge after years of criticism around male bias at the awards.

RAYE’s record-breaking BRITS haul includes gongs for Best Album, Best Artist, Best Song and new category Best R&B Act — as well as other big wins.

The 26-year-old London-based artist has spent the past three years publicly criticising major label Polydor for previously withholding her debut album release.

Collecting the Album of The Year Award for her debut ‘My 21st Century Blues’, RAYE brought her grandmother on stage. The singer's former headteacher from the BRIT school, Stuart Worden, announced the award.

RAYE shared in her acceptance speech: "I’m so proud of this album, I’m in love with music – all I ever wanted to be was an artist."

Also awarded at this weekend's ceremony was electronic music project Jungle winning their first-ever BRIT for Best Group.

Calvin Harris won Best Dance Act, nominated alongside Barry Can't Swim, Becky Hill, Fred again.. and Romy.

Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act was awarded to masked artist Casisdead who released his debut album this year, ‘Famous Last Words’.

Ahead of the ceremony - which took place on March 2 - The BRIT Awards named Chase & Status as its 2024 Producer Of The Year.

The duo, RAYE, Dua Lipa and more performed at the ceremony.
