Emily Eavis comments on "pipeline" issue amid row over Glastonbury's all-male headliners

Elton John, Guns N’ Roses and Arctic Monkeys are set to headline the Pyramid Stage at this year's festival

Emily Eavis comments on "pipeline" issue amid row over Glastonbury's all-male headliners

Glastonbury festival has revealed the Pyramid Stage line-up, with Elton John, Guns N’ Roses and Arctic Monkeys all set for headline slots.

Co-organiser of the festival, Emily Eavis has spoken to The Guardian on the subject of a mainly male-focused line-up explaining, “we’re trying our best,” adding that there is an industry “pipeline” problem.

With 54 names announced today, acts in the electronic music scene include, Alison Goldfrapp, Becky Hill, Fatboy Slim, Fred Again.., Hot Chip, Shygirl and Rudimental.

Other names on the bill are Aitch, Blondie, Cat Burns, Central Cee, Ezra Collective, Kelis, Joey Bada$$,Lana Del Ray, Riina Sawayama, Slowthai, Lizzo, Cat Stevens and plenty of others.

According to Eavis, Guns N’ Roses were booked after an unnamed female headliner pulled out from the slot after she “changed her touring plans”.

Lizzo has been listed alongside Elton John yet is not an official headliner however Eavis says that the US singer could “totally headline” however she explains: “Many of the artists could. But the headline slot had already been promised to someone else.”

Statistics made by The Guardian show that 52% of the 54 names on this first line-up are male with 46% of those 54 names being non-white, or featuring non-white members.

Eavis said she remained “entirely focused on balancing our bill. It’s not just about gender, it’s about every aspect of diversity.”

Alongside the line-up Eavis has also disclosed that the John Peel Stage will now be called Woodsies after 18 years under the name.

“We’ve had 20 years of John Peel and it’s been an honour to use his name,” she said.
