Coachella attendees mistake Damon Albarn for Billie Eilish's dad

One person also thought it was Elton John and tagged him on Twitter

Some fans of Billie Eilish thought Damon Albarn was her dad when he joined her on stage at Coachella this weekend.

Eilish welcomed Damon Albarn onto the stage for a version of 'Getting Older' before also playing Gorillaz's 'Feel Good Inc'.

However, many of Eilish's fanbase, many of whom belong to Gen Z, did not recognize who Albarn was and took to Twitter to share their confusion about who was on stage with Eilish.

Metro reports that several fans several referred to Damon bluntly as an "old man." One commented: "It’s so funny the way none of us know who that old man is."

Another added: ‘Who is that old man?’

One Harry Styles fan account tweeted: "We all thought the guy from Gorillaz was Billie Eilish's dad lmaooo"

Writer Brock Wilbur took to Twitter to share this funny story: "My co-worker is recovering from surgery and spent the weekend watching the Coachella streams. During Billie Eilish’s set, Damon Albarn came out to do some songs, and social media thought it was her dad? “Billie’s dad has a good voice. Why he British that’s weird.” I’m losing it."

Some users also mistook Albarn for Elton John, and were tweeting out about Elton John being at Coachella with Eilish.

However, some were quick to state that Albarn's appearance with Eilish was "wasted" on an American audience, claiming that had this taken place at a UK festival, the reaction would have been better.

"The crowds at Coachella are so boring, if Billie Eilish brought on Damon Albarn to sing Gorillaz tunes at a UK festival everyone’s heads would roll clean off," one fan said.

Someone else said that the energy from the crowd and their reception of Damon Albarn and Billie Eilish together "did not pass the vibe check".

Eilish last performed at Coachella in 2019. She was nominated across seven categories at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Happier Than Ever was up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
