Richie Hawtin’s seminal 1994 album 'Musik' is being reissued on vinyl
The artist is remastering his second album as Plastikman in celebration of its 30th anniversary
A vinyl reissue of Richie Hawtin’s second album as Plastikman, 'Musik', is being released in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
Coming via NovaMute, the album has been remastered from the original tapes, pressed on bio-vinyl, and encased in environmentally-conscious packaging. It is set to arrive December 6.
The original album, released in November 1994, was issued on NovaMute alongside Hawtin’s own label Plus 8. It followed Plastikman’s debut album ‘Sheet One’ of 1993, and propelled the artist into fame, reaching number 58 on the UK Albums Chart and hailed by The Guardian as “music as you've never heard it before”, according to a press release.

At the time, the British-born, Canadian-raised musician was entrenched in the underground music scene of Detroit, pioneering new sounds in the realm of minimal techno.
He has revealed that ‘Musik’ was launched at his first ever live performance, which took place at a derelict Packard Plant in Detroit.
The record’s lasting influence was demonstrated this year when Raf Simons used one of its more experimental tracks, ‘Kriket’, in the Prada Men Spring/Summer show.

Hawtin's had a busy summer, playing sets at Nuits Sonores, Movement Music Festival, Sónar, Junction 2 and a 25th anniversary party for Cocoon in Ibiza.
He will also play at Amsterdam Dance Event this year, during this 909 x Loveland party on October 19.
The anniversary of ‘Musik’ comes the same year Aphex Twin celebrates 30 years of his seminal 1993 album ‘Selected Ambient Works Volume II’.
