King Britt curates exhibition on Afrofuturism and electronic music
The DJ, producer and professor is celebrating his course at University Of California, San Diego, ‘Blacktronika’
A new exhibition from King Britt is running in San Diego exploring his university course, Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music at the University Of California.
The DJ, producer and professor is celebrating his course with an exhibition at the Geisel Library, San Diego.
The new course titled, Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music, allows students to learn about the “people of color who have pioneered groundbreaking genres within the electronic music landscape” the course description explains.

Delving into musical genres including Chicago house, Detroit techno and drum ’n’ bass, the course has also included guest speakers including, Questlove, Theo Parrish, Ron Trent, Masters At Work, Flying Lotus, Mad Professor, Elsa M'Bala and more.
The exhibition created by Britt of the same name as the course has studying materials on display including vintage and modern electronic instruments.
On March 3, the course will be turned into a pop-up club at the campus building, Conrad Prebys Music Center Experimental Theater.

King Britt says that the course explores, "the lineage of many of the groundbreaking Black electronic artists who have been integral but overlooked in the development and commodification of house, techno, drum & bass and experimental music."
Blacktronika: Afrofuturism in Electronic Music exhibition is open now and running until March 25.
