Manchester Museum to launch "Museum Lates" programme for re-launch

The Manchester Museum has announced that it will be launching a series of music and film nights ‘Museum Lates’.

With the museum currently closed for refurbishment, it is due to reopen on February 18 and beginning on March 8, it will be open until 9:PM every Wednesday.

There will be different themes each week, with performances and talks with artists, writers, filmmakers and other performers.

Esme Ward, the director of Manchester Museum told Manchester Evening News: “We’re delighted to announce a wonderful series of events as part of our spring season. Our events and collaborations are more imaginative, caring and inclusive than ever before.

The museum is full of incredible stories and free activities made for families, young people, students and adults. [Lates] will help you make the most out of the museum and take a deep dive into some of the most fascinating objects on display,” she continued.

“2023 is set to be the most exciting year in the museum’s long history and we hope as many people as possible will join the celebrations – there really is something for everyone.”

The first late event will be dedicated to films on International Women’s Day, with a screening of Kate Winslet film Ammonite, where she plays fossil hunter Mary Anning.

Most late events will be free of entry, but the Manchester Museum recommends booking in advance.

Last week, Salford festival Sounds From The Other City shared the first names for its 2023 edition, which will take place across a number of key venues in the city including The White Hotel, Islington Mill and Fivefourstudios.

Among the 100 artists announced so far are The Beatriarchy, Chandé, Gracie T and MC Skittles.
