Kanye West dedicates Sunday Service cover of Adele to Virgil Abloh

Watch Kanye West and the Sunday Service pay tribute to DJ and fashion designer Virgil Abloh who passed away yesterday from cancer aged 41

Kanye West dedicates Sunday Service cover of Adele to Virgil Abloh

After LVMH confirmed the news of Virgil Abloh’s death, the Donda Live website posted a livestream of Kanye West’s Sunday Service.

West posted the link to the livestream via his Instagram Story, with the stream showing only just visible footage of the West conducting the choir with an audience and children running around.

The choir covered Adele’s ‘Easy On Me’ with reworked lyrics singing: “Go easy on me, father / I am still your child / And I need the chance to / Feel your love around” as well as, “In loving memory of Virgil Abloh, creative director of ‘Donda'” appeared on the screen of the livestream.

West – also known legally as Ye – had known Abloh since the early 2000s. He worked as creative director at Donda and also served as art director for West’s collaboration with Jay-Z on album ‘Watch the Throne’.

Abloh was best-known for being artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear and founder of Off-White alongside being an established DJ performing under both his own name, alias FLAT WHITE and as the duo Paris, IL.

The announcement of Abloh’s death was made via his Instagram as his family posted: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend.

“He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues.”
