Amaliah ‘Manifold’ (On Loop)

Amaliah’s debut EP on Moxie’s On Loop label is jam-packed with songs that just make you want to dance. From the siren-heavy lead single ‘Helix’ to the groove-laden ‘Me So’, the Rinse FM resident has concocted a clever combination of UK house and global influences. This is most prevalent in ‘Spooky Dub’, where expertly layered percussion includes dembow rhythms that evoke elements of Amor Satyr, Siu Mata and INVT while staying true to the Borne Fruits label boss’ original sound. For the finale, Call Super flips ‘Helix’ on its head for a remix that is, minus the siren, barely recognisable to the original, but fits perfectly with the rest of the record. Already supported by the likes of ISAbella, Pearson Sound, Saoirse and making its way onto Pangaea’s Essential Mix, this release has got legs and you’re bound to hear it in clubs all the way into the new year.

Siu Mata ‘Amasia’ (Nervous Horizon)

The quality and quantity of Nervous Horizon’s output this year has been nothing short of exceptional, and Siu Mata’s ‘Amasia’ has topped it off with a buzzer-beater contender for record of the year. The French wizard, known for his hit collaborations with Amor Satyr, asserts his production prowess across six tracks which dance between minimal, with echoed out, psychedelic synth lines. and the epic, with hard-hitting basslines coupled with dembow rhythms. Marrying Latin grooves with top-tier production and sound design, in many ways ‘Amasia’ feels like a modern classic. Highlights include the mesmerising synthplay on ‘Kenorland’ and the massive, romping bass that seizes control of ‘Nuna’, but every track speaks for itself. This record has been a secret favourite of some of the best DJs in the world for quite a while, now it’s time for the rest of the world to catch up.

Peder Mannefelt ‘The Benefits of Living in a Hole’ (Voam)

Peder Mannefelt bends and twists the club to his will in the latest Voam release. Lead single ‘Pumping Plastic’ is an exercise in loony euphoria which includes frantic, jumpy leads and dreamy pads amid rolling percussion, a huge kick and an amen or two. The next two tracks go straight in from the get go: the speedy ‘Vankelmotor’ opens with what sounds like a minute-long machine-solo before a jolting synth lead punches in, while ‘Eurotrashed’ may as well have been called ‘Eurothumped’ given the ferocity throughout. It sounds like all the best dance music producers in the world have been assembled to soundtrack chaos. Last but not least, ‘Liquid Rattan Mainframe’ provides whirring and buzzing percussion to complete a record that, in true Voam style, sounds like dance music from the future.

박혜진 Park Hye Jin ‘Sail The Seven Seas’ (Self-released)

Two years after the release of her debut album, 박혜진 Park Hye Jin is back with an album solely written, produced, performed and released by herself. She has put blood, sweat and tears into ‘Sail The Seven Seas’. Making lo-fi house with aspects of intricate techno and trance, her soft lyrics flow between Korean and English as she draws each song together. Laying out a spectrum of stories, Park Hye Jin opens up with lyrics about the past two years, including her recent travels to her complicated relationship. She also plays with the listener's emotions with the darker songs such as ‘Stupid Asf’ and ‘Amazing’ contrasting the bliss of ‘Sex On The Beach’ and ‘Bklyn Babe’.

Noti ‘Mirage / Control’ (SSS)

This two-track package from Noti delivers maximum damage, via a couple of brain-melting club heaters with inflections of acid, 140, and a spiralling array of monstrous breakbeats. On the opener, Noti gathers infectious vocal samples and puts them on repeat over a rumbling bassline, while the latter track, ‘Control’, is spattered with 303s and psychedelic samples. It’s new age club dynamism made for hefty basement soundsystems.

Guilia Tess 'Serie A’ (LG105)

Look, who doesn’t love football? Much of the dance music world certainly does. Whether it’s from crowds kitted out in their favourite shirts on the dancefloor or producers churning out bolshy edits of the Match Of The Day theme tune, we love it. So it feels quite unusual that it is rarely the inspiration behind releases, and even more rare that we see a genuine exploration behind an artist's love of the beautiful game rather than a donk remix of ‘Carnival De Paris’. Enter ‘Serie A’ from Italian-born, London-based producer Guilia Tess – a six tracker that is as buoyant as it is packed with emotion, delving into Tess’ own hopes and dreams as a football fan. Brimming with synth-laden progressive house, rattling breaks, and delicate percussion-heavy electronica — ‘Serie A’ is as moving as it is uplifting, delving into the highs and lows of the pitch. The result is a record that will have you holding back tears in the terraces.

DJ Mell G 'ISSUES REMIXES’ (Juicy Gang)

An exploration of her own struggles with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) through the lens of frenetic electro, DJ MELL G’s original ‘ISSUES’ EP was a blistering six-tracker that also acted as a frank account of mental health struggles. A deeply personal record that can cause havoc on a club soundsystem. The narrative of ’ISSUES’ only becomes more complex on the record’s remix edition, ‘ISSUES REMIXES’, which features contributions from Manuka Honey, Ben Pest, Cyan85, Sally C and Peachlyf. The five remixes at no point take away from the sweltering disquiet of the original, instead seeing each producer adds some of their own trademarks to the mix – resulting in a record that feels like a constantly unravelling conversation between separate warring psyches. Manuka Honey slows things down slightly on the title-track to give ‘ISSUES’ a more percussion-heavy warmth, while Sally C drops in some of her favoured kicks amid the rolling frenzy of ‘BODERLINE’. A masterclass in remix records.

Mia Koden ‘Decode’ (Ilian Tape)

Mia Koden’s debut vinyl release packs a soundsystem punch, burrowing into dark textures with the gnarly bass of ‘10easy’ setting the tone from the off. ‘Racket’ deploys an effectively chopped vocal over dynamic percussion, ‘Sludge’ leans into murk with an unstable bassline throbbing at the core, while closer ‘Après Vous’ is the most off-kilter offering, serving up headfuck business with its idiosyncratic blend of tones doused in reverb.
