The Met Office wants you to "stay out of the sun" as UK temperatures soar

As temperatures hit over 30 degrees celsius in the UK, the Met Office is warning people to beware of the sun.

This is important if you're attending a festival at the weekend, with Camp Bestival, Kendal Calling and Standon Calling all taking place in Dorset, Cumbria and Hertfordshire respectively.

After a temperature of 33.3C was recorded in Santon Downham, Suffolk on Monday, the Met Office said: “Stay out of the sun. Keep your home as cool as possible – shading windows and shutting them during the day may help. Open them when it is cooler at night.

"Keep drinking fluids. If there’s anybody you know, for example an older person living on their own, who might be at special risk, make sure they know what to do.”

Temperatures could reach 35C on Friday, the heat caused by warm air rising from France and high pressure across the UK.

Festival Safe is a new initiative promoting safety at festivals, while drug testing will be available at Bestival, MADE and Boardmasters this summer.

Basement Jaxx, David Rodigan, Horse Meat Disco, Wookie, Little Simz and George FitzGerald are among those playing at Camp Bestival, Kendal Calling and Standon Calling.
