The Paris 2024 Paralympics enlisted more than 20 electronic acts to take part in its closing ceremony on Sunday, September 8, paying homage to the city's vibrant club scene.

24 DJs, producers, and artists were invited to soundtrack the closing event amidst a display of dazzling light shows, darting lasers, a wall of flames, and unfortunately, a torrential downpour.

Leading the celebrations, legendary producer Jean-Michel Jarre played a live set to a crowd of over 80,000 spectators, athletes, and French VIPs including France's President, Emmanuel Macron.

Also on the bill, Cassius played for the first time since the death of the group's founding member Philippe ‘Zdar’ Cerboneschi. Surviving member Hubert ‘Boombass’ Blanc-Francard played a one-off set in memory of his friend and bandmate.

Other DJs who performed at the closing ceremony included Kitten, Anetha, Busy P, Chloé Caillet, Kavinsky, Kungs, Kiddy Smile, Étienne De Crécy, and many more.

The show ended with a performance from French DJ Martin Solveig, who played Daft Punk’s ‘One More Time’ as Paralympic athletes danced and fireworks rained from above.

It was initially rumoured that Daft Punk would reunite at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. However, speculation was soon shut down as Creative Director Thomas Jolly confirmed on Twitter: “After discussing a possible presence at the ceremony, the group's decision is not to participate.”

Earlier this year, French electronic act Justice featured nearly 18 minutes of music in the Olympic closing ceremony, while Kavinsky's ‘Nightcall’ became the “most Shazamed song in a single day” after it was played at the event.
