Pa Salieu’s Coventry concert has been cancelled by local authorities

Pa Salieu has said that his forthcoming headline show in Coventry has been cancelled by "authorities."

The rapper was scheduled to perform in his hometown on November 27 as part of his Afrikan Rebel UK tour, which would take him across the nation to places including Bristol, Manchester, London, and Nottingham, with BackRoad Gee as support.

In a post shared by on social media, he wrote: “Sadly due to reasons out of my control, the authorities have decided I can’t play my Coventry show next month. This after already being cut out of certain City of Culture activities this year is just too disappointing. I feel like I’m being let down by the city I love... Why do they fear us?”

In April 2021, the artist was charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Coventry in 2018. Fidel Glasgow, the grandson of The Specials’ Neville Staple, was killed outside Coventry’s Club M aged 21.

In a statement shared with NME, representatives for Coventry’s City Of Culture celebrations said: “Coventry UK City of Culture Trust is involved in an on-going conversation with representatives of Pa Salieu about his involvement in our programme.

“Due to the live nature of the investigation at the time we were preparing for our launch event, Coventry Moves, it was decided that it would not be possible for Pa to be involved. However, we hope to work with him in the future as we shape our programme for the rest of our tenure as UK City of Culture.”

Pa Salieu is currently out on bail after pleading no contest to counts of intentional injury and violent conduct.

Although he is scheduled to stand trial in January 2022, both West Midlands Police and Coventry City Council have said that they had no role in the postponement of the concert- according to the BBC.

Kasbah, where the rapper was supposed to perform his 2021 Coventry show, has not yet made a comment.

The rapper was also billed to play at the Coventry City of Culture launch event earlier this year. His performance at the event was also cancelled.

Coventry's tenure as UK City of Culture is due to end in May 2022.
