PXSSY PALACE's Overflo festival has been postponed due to the Queen's funeral

PXSSY PALACE's first-ever day festival Overflo, which was set to take place in London's Burgess Park in just five days' time, has been postponed.

Representatives from Overflo Festival say that the postponement is a result of Southwark Council withdrawing permission for the festival to take place this weekend — due to the upcoming funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

"We are sad to announce that as a result of the Queen’s passing last Thursday, Southwark Council has withdrawn the permission for Overflo to take place," a press release said.

"We are devastated to not be able to move forward with the event. Both Southwark Council and ourselves have looked at every avenue to ensure the event can go ahead, however, for the reasons outlined below, Southwark Council will not permit them to at this time. "

The festival has also announced the news on instagram, sharing further insight: "We tried to fight it as much as possible but the powers that be have had the last word," the statement reads.

"Nonetheless, Overflo will be rescheduled so please be patient with us while we figure out a new date to dance."

Regarding the postponement, the organisers explain that the decision was not in their hands as Southwark Council are the landowners of Burgess Park, where the all-day outdoor festival was due to take place.

"Southwark Council are the landowner of Burgess Park and therefore have the ability to cancel the event for reasons of reputation and also for public safety.

"In addition to this, we work closely with the Safety Advisory Group which includes members of London Ambulance Service, the Metropolitan Police and Environmental Health, all of whom will no longer have the resources to support the event going ahead next weekend."

"Whilst we do have our own resources that are paid for by the event, all events in Southwark have to work closely with the authorities who give resources to the events to ensure protection of the event locally.

"They need to be reassured that in the event of an incident occurring at the event there is enough police resource and ambulance resource to deal with this and unfortunately all resource is being drafted in to support the Queen’s funeral and advance planning."

PXSSY PALACE co-founder Nadine Noor Ahmad and BBZ co-founder Naeem Davis collaborated to create Overflo, a festival which will feature a huge array of homegrown and international Queer, Trans, Non-binary, Black, Indigenous and POC talent.
