There's a new university course to study Kanye West

Concordia University, in Montreal, has just announced a new course that will be available on their campus — and it's entirely about Kanye West.

Yassin Alsalman is launching a university class to delve further into Kanye West's thinking - the first of its kind. Titled Kanye vs. Ye: Genius by Design - this is a class that joins a list of university-level courses which develop our ideas of modern pop culture icons.

The course will focus on Ye's career, from his early days as a Chicago producer to his present stature as one of pop culture's most important (and divisive) figures.

The course investigates the notions of 'Kanyetive Dissonance,' or the distinctive, complicated, and contentious natures and contexts of Kanye's work, using his albums as a cultural, creative, and personal lens to study the progression of his creativity.

He wrote on Instagram: "This class isn’t only about Kanye. It’s about community, creativity, responsibility, accountability, fame and mental health, dreams and nightmares - and more importantly, self-actualisation.

This Kanye class is not the first time Yassin Alsalman has led a musician-focused class. He wrote, “I want to bring something new and fresh to students. An opportunity to bring more amazing guests to the University and to discuss the world through the lens of one of the most influential artists of our generation.”

Around 200 Fine Arts students at the university will be permitted to take the class.

Ye's latest album 'DONDA 2' was recently launched on his Stem Player which has gained mixed reviews. The rapper has also been feuding with Pete Davidson, his ex-wife Kim Kardashian's boyfriend.
