Fugees have completely cancelled their reunion tour due to COVID

The Fugees have now completely cancelled their highly anticipated reunion tour.

Fugees, consisting of Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras Michel - three of hip hop's most influential artists, announced in September 2021 that they will rejoin for a 2021 global tour to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their legendary 1996 album 'The Score'.

However, at the end of November, they announced that they were postponing their then-impending reunion tour, which was set to begin on November 2 in Chicago.

Now, the group have announced that the entire tour has been cancelled and have cited the ongoing COVID pandemic as the reason - as reported by NME.

“We anticipate and understand disappointment but our anniversary tour will not be able to happen,” the Fugees wrote on social media.

“The continued COVID pandemic has made touring conditions difficult, and we want to make sure we keep our fans and ourselves healthy and safe.

“And idea sparked to honour and celebrate this 25th anniversary of The Score but we see now it may not currently be our time for revisiting this past work, We’re grateful for the special night we did get to share with some of you in New York, with that rare live moment.”

They finished the statement by saying: “If opportunity, public safety, and scheduling allow, we hope to be able to revisit this again sometime soon. THANK YOU for all your love and support throughout the years.”

This cancellation is not the first time that eager and waiting Fugees fans have been left disappointed; in September Fugees were three hours late to their first show together in 15 years for Global Citizen Live, on Wednesday, September 22.

At this show they played favourites such as 'The Score', 'Killing Me Softly', and 'Ready or Not', and attendees were only able to get tickets through an online drawing.

Their world tour was set to have a London date of December 6 at the O2.

Fans have been disappointed by this news, but some have also been making jokes.

One commented under their Instagram post: "Killing me softly with this post. Killing me softlyyyyyy with this post".

Another commented on the nature of Ms Lauryn Hill often turning up late or not showing up to shows, they said "there’s a better chance of a new variant showing up than [Lauryn]".
