Baltra ‘Where I End’ (96 & Forever)

“This is where I end / can’t run anymore,” coos the recurring sample on Baltra’s new track ‘Where I End’, due to join six more new tracks on the forthcoming January-released record of the same name. The introspective title-track fuses downtempo breakbeat with an unassuming breakdown made for ‘the darker corners of the club’, heading onto the producer’s own label, 96 & Forever Records, in 2023.

Commodo ‘cclarity’ (Mysterious Trax)

Paired with a gritty music video of a city by-night, Commodo’s latest track ‘cclarity’ is a suspenseful bass cut with an enormous cinematic feel. Following February’s ‘Deft 1s’ record, Commodo returns with the same brooding instrumental that fills this entire three-minute track with grungey, filtered bass strings. It lands as a single this month before its debut release on the producer’s brand new imprint, Mysterious Trax, in October.

Cameo Blush ‘Template’ (Unknown Untitled)

‘Template’, the euphoric vocal breaks cut from Cameo Blush, did the rounds at the last of the summer’s festival season after it was teased by concept label Unknown Untitled without a name at the start of September. The London-based producer was finally revealed as the artist behind this brand new track by the end of the month, marking his second release on the imprint following 2020’s ‘uu001’.

Mount Kimbie feat. Maxo Kream and Pa Salieu ‘Locked in’

A long anticipating sound of thunder draws you into the track before we burst into the first verse from American hip hop artist Maxo Kream. Kream rolls his verse out with a call and response echo in his breaths before Pa Salieu jumps onto the track with force. Similar to previous Mount Kimbie releases that have featured rappers, the beat doesn’t distract listeners but instead complements the artist’s flow and tempo. Two artists you’d never predict to feature on a track together yet Mount Kimbie makes it work by keeping them separate. Produced by one half of the duo, Dom Maker, this bonus track oddly won’t feature on their upcoming album but sits alone as a banger.

Kornél Kovács, MishCatt ‘Get Goofy’ (Studio Barnhus)

Featuring on his upcoming album ‘Hotel Koko', Stockholm producer Kornél Kovács teams up with singer-songwriter MishCatt on his new single ‘Get Goofy’. Fast from the get-go this track blends house and techno for its long synth notes and complicated drum pattern. MishCatt’s voice floats on top of this chaotic backbeat giving you the opportunity to rave and have a singalong.

Jamie xx ‘KILL DEM’

Infusing inspiration from the spirit of Notting Hill Carnival, Jamie xx has created a track that may be too late for summer but sure can be the anthem of our autumn. Sampling the iconic Cutty Ranks' 'Limb by Limb', Jamie flutters around with a speedy version of Ranks’ vocals. It brings back a stone-cold classic to the dancefloors of 2022.

Joy Orbison x Overmono ‘Blind Date’ ft. Abra (XL Recordings)

Destined for big rooms and small, the latest collaboration between Truss, Tessela and Joy O combines the all-out breaks euphoria of the sibling duo with the engrossing percussion of the ‘Still Slipping’ producer to create a joyous peak time belter — destined to provide The Moment for selectors in the coming months. Fizzling basslines, delicate whistles and fraught, grinding synths provide the perfect backdrop to US-vocalist Abra’s silky tenor — as she murmurs over the vigorous beat “all I ever wanted.” So, when and where are we meeting then?

Yazzus ‘Zenith’ (kaptcha)

The speed queen of B Town delivers a playful electro-leaning offering for the second edition of Lisbon-based collective kaptcha’s xenolith compilation. ‘Zenith’ is reminiscent of schematic video game soundtracks, but with a sprinkle of hefty kick drums, glistening hi-hats and a giddy cowbell here and there for good measure — creating a club-ready, furious track that doesn’t relent on heart. And with all profits going to Casa T, a shelter for trans and non-binary immigrants in Lisbon, it’s more than worth a cop on Bandcamp.

Shanti Celeste ‘Cutie’ (Hessle Audio)

The first single from the Peach Discs boss’ debut EP on Hessle Audio, ‘Cutie’ is a stripped-back house roller poised for after-hours dancefloors. Glistening chimes are underbellied by shuffling pads, with Celeste’s high-pitched vocals chirping through the centre creating a blissed out cacophony of sugary-sweet tinges. Consistently delicate, honeyed in some places but strong in all those that really need it — with tempo fast-paced enough to keep your shoulders moving to the beat.
