Warp Records to release soundtrack for Peckham-set romcom Rye Lane

Produced by Kwes, the soundtrack includes features from Tirzah and Sampha

Warp Records has announced that it will release the Kwes-produced soundtrack for new Peckham-set rom-com Rye Lane.

The 19-track original score from the London-based producer is due to drop on November 3, and includes features from Tirzah and Sampha.

Kwes has been releasing music with Warp since 2012, previously working with the likes of Solange, Damon Albarn, Pusha T and Black Coffee.

Last week, the EP ‘Rye Lane (Suite)’ was released featuring six tracks from the score, other music included within the film comes from the likes of Stormzy, Craig David and A Tribe Called Quest.

The Raine Allen-Miller-directed film, that was released this year, follows the relationship between two young people — Dom (David Jonsson) and Yas (Vivian Oparah).

“When it came to creating the score, I was particularly heavily leaning into the vibrant colour of the picture, the primarily fast but differing paces of the film and script as a whole and of course South London, where it's set,” said Kwes to Resident Advisor.

“I was also thinking about late teenagehood/early adulthood and all its awkwardness and intensity of emotions. So it's heavily syncopated in a lot of places, ramshackle but luxurious in texture. But then in parts it's also very ethereal, detuned and dreamlike, particularly in moments where the bond between Yas and Dom starts to grow and grow.”
