Stranger Things writers deny "retroactively editing" the show

The Stranger Things writers are denying that they are retrospectively editing or cutting previous episodes of the show - after they have been accused online of changing episodes to fit the storyline and eliminate plot holes.

This comes after people online have been accusing creators of the popular Netflix show Stranger Things that they have been editing photos and creating a "Mandela effect"

Recently, GQ has published an article arguing that the deletion and editing of episodes after premiere sets a “dangerous” precedent for TV.

However, these accusations have been denied by the writers of the show. The Twitter account @StrangerWriters, run by those who work on the show, tweeted: “PSA: no scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited. And they never will be” accompanied by a GIF of character Dustin waving his arms and saying “I swear on my mother”.

Fans thought that a scene from the first season of the show, where Jonathan was taking photographs of Nancy as she undressed, was edited - in an attempt to be less perverted.

Fans claimed that they remember Jonathan continuing to take photographs as Nancy was naked when they first watched the show, but that is not what happens on the version that is currently on Netflix.

These allegations about the creators editing post-release arose when The Duffer Brothers, creators of the show, told Variety that they are ‘George Lucas-ing” Will’s Birthday and have updated Season 4 after it premiered.

“We have [also] George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about,” Matt Duffer told Variety.

Here they are making reference to George Lucas, creator of Star Wars, editing some of the Star Wars films after they have been released - a move that is normally considered taboo in film and TV.

As people online continue to speculate as to whether or not episodes have been edited, some have made humour from the situation.

One person posted a video showing off their copies of the Stranger Things Seasons 1 and 2 DVDS on TikTok, saying “idk if its true that they b editing the episodes but they cant edit my dvd” with a devil face emoji.

Fans are already looking forward to Season 5 of Stranger Things, which is set to be released in 2024.

This year, Season 4 took the internet by storm and has birthed some worldwide firsts in popular culture, including Kate Bush reaching number one in the charts for a song that she released in 1985.
