R. Kelly has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse

Chicago's Cook County has issued a warrant for R. Kelly's arrest

Following extensive and highly-publicized allegations outlining horrifying sex crimes, Chicago Cook County court records show that R. Kelly has been indicted on 10 accounts of aggravated sexual criminal abuse. A judge issued for his arrest on Friday.

According to the charges, three of the indictments refer to a minor between the ages of 13 and 16, though it isn't immediately clear how many alleged victims are involved.

This latest development comes after attorney Michael Avenatti shared that he had given the State Attorney's Office a video showing the 52-year old singer having sex with an underage girl, which CNN has confirmed.

At the tail end of 2018, a three-part documentary called Surviving R. Kelly was released on Lifetime, which showcased powerful testimonies from alleged former victims of the R&B singer and addressed the rumors of his abuse and predatory behavior. The following public outcry and cultural blowback caused high-profile artists like Lady Gaga to come forward and apologize for working with R. Kelly in the past, though he has continued to deny the allegations.
