Fire breaks out at Brazilian institution Warung Beach Club
Footage has been circulating on social media showing a blaze at the venue, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year
Video footage has circulated on social media, which appears to show a fire breaking out at iconic Brazilian venue Warung Beach Club.
The club, which is situated on Brazil’s East coast in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, celebrated its 20th anniversary towards the end of last year (November 2022), having been open since 2002.
The footage, posted earlier today at 11:AM local time (2:PM GMT) shows the venue completely ablaze and engulfed by a roaring fire.
According to Brazil’s Military Fire Department (via local publication g1g1), there are no injuries, and the fire was brought under control after about two hours from when it started, with firefighters coming from Itajaí, as well as neighbouring cities Itapema and Balnéario.
The fire is said to have started at 10:AM local time (1:PM GMT), near to the club, before spreading. It is not yet known what the cause of the fire was.
The club is a much loved venue in the area, and was due to host the likes of Adriatique, ANNA, Bonobo, Chloé Caillet, and Camelphat on May 6, for its Warung Day Festival event. At this stage it is uncertain what will happen regarding future scheduled events.
In recent times, the club has welcomed some of the world’s biggest electronic music artists, including Charlotte de Witte, Four Tet, Seth Troxler, Joris Voorn and Dubfire.
In 2012, the club won a long-running case to remain open, after receiving noise complaints from neighbourhoods in the area, despite its remote location with a prosecutor even ordering the club to be demolished at one point.
