Legendary music PR Barbara Charone could join the board of Chelsea FC

Legendary music PR and former music journalist Barbara Charone could join the board of Chelsea Football Club if the Todd Boehly bid for the club is successful, As stated by Telegraph journalist Matt Law.

She joins a roster of public figures who are looking to take over the football club on behalf of sanctioned oligarch Roman Abramovich. According to her page on Curtis Brown's website, she is an avid Chelsea fan.

Barbara Charone is a UK-based American public relations officer for various infamous music artists, her roster of clients has included have included Madonna, Depeche Mode, Primal Scream, Rod Stewart and Christina Aguilera.

She worked as a writer and music critic in the early 1970s for the Chicago Sun-Times, NME, and Rolling Stone while still a university student.

She worked as a staff writer for Sounds Magazine after moving to England in 1974, eventually rising to the post of deputy editor, publishing feature stories and reviews to magazines including Crawdaddy!, Creem, and Circus in the 1970s.

Charone began her public relations career at WEA in 1981, after becoming the company's publicity director, she departed in 2000 to co-found MBC PR.

The legendary publicist and writer is in the running as part of the Boehly-Wyss-Goldstein consortium to get the football club. Bids close on Friday, and there is already a slew of wealthy individuals on the list looking to buy the club.

As reported in The Guardian, Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, was the first to speak out about Roman Abramovich's desire to sell the club and express an interest in purchasing it. Todd Boehly, an American who owns a portion of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Jonathan Goldstein, the CEO of Cain International and a Tottenham supporter, are among his investors.

They made an offer of £2 billion to £2.5 billion a few days ago, certain of winning the battle to acquire Chelsea, but the situation has been complicated by the arrival of additional bidders.

Boehly has recruited Times columnist and Conservative peer Daniel Finkelstein and PR executive Barbara Charone to the partnership after being rejected by Abramovich when he made an approach for the club in 2019.

Charone is due to release a "tell-all" book in June, one which some of music's biggest stars including Madonna and Guns N Roses are preparing themselves for.
