Traxman announces first solo album in 10 years, ‘Da Mind Of Traxman Vol.3’

Legendary Chicago producer Traxman has revealed details of his first solo album in ten years, set to arrive via Planet Mu on February 7.

Ahead of its release, the footwork, juke and ghetto house artist has shared ‘I Want You To Ghost’, the first single from the 15-track record.

‘Da Mind Of Traxman Vol.3’, was curated with the help of fellow Planet Mu artist Sinjin Hawke, who is also featured on the album alongside Bobby Skillz and DJ Twan.

Hawke selected the best Traxman tracks out of hundreds dating back to 2002.

"This album series is important and holds real documentarian value," Traxman says. "Working on it feels like the modern equivalent of curating a piece of Miles Davis’s catalogue in the '60s and '70s."

Traxman, AKA Corky Strong, real name Cornelius Ferguson, is an icon of Chicago dance music, with releases on labels including Dance Mania, Teklife and Moveltraxx.

He has worked with everyone from Steve Poindexter to Fast Eddie to the late DJ Deeon and DJ Rashad.

Since his last album, ‘Da Mind Of Traxman Vol.2’, Ferguson has been “DJing regularly, releasing lots of music, becoming a grandfather and being a mentor for younger artists coming up in the scene,” reads the liner notes to his forthcoming LP.

“Volume 3 showcases Traxman's uncanny ability to take old music into the future without losing the feeling and energy of his samples and influences,” it says of the album.

“These are some of the purest, most innovative ideations of Chicago footwork.”

Last year, Teklife (the footwork and juke collective that Traxman is a part of) cut ties with crew member DJ Taye after learning some “disturbing” news.

This year, it commemorated the 10th anniversary of DJ Rashad’s death with a global event series spanning four cities.
