Chicago footwork collective Teklife cuts ties with DJ Taye

Chicago-based footwork and juke collective Teklife has parted company with previous crew member DJ Taye (pictured).

Teklife announced the news on Instagram earlier today, telling fans that they made the decision to part ways with Sanders after learning some “disturbing” news, which has not been disclosed.

“Some disturbing news was brought to our attention over the past week involving one of the members of our group, we at Teklife do not condone such actions in no shape, fashion or form,” they explained.

Sanders was previously anointed Teklife’s “youngest member”, and has been working with the crew since 2010, including founding members DJ Spinn, Traxman, and the late DJ Rashad.

“In light of the nature of these allegations and to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our other group members who are not involved, we have made the decision to part ways with DJ Taye,” Teklife said in a statement.

They continued: “We sincerely wish him the best and hope that he receives the necessary support and assistance to overcome his challenges.”

DJ Taye has been working with the collective and record label since he was 16-years-old when the group was previously known as GhettoTeknitianz.

On June 5, DJ Taye has changed his Instagram bio to read: “inactive! this was a fun project while it lasted”. [Update, June 6: His bio is now blank.]

Mixmag has reached out to Teklife and DJ Taye for comment.
