Primavera Sound will not return to Madrid next year, festival confirms

Primavera Sound Madrid will not go ahead in 2024.

The festival held consecutive events in Barcelona and Madrid for the first time this year — however due to weather conditions, day one of the festival in Madrid was cancelled.

A statement from festival organisers, seen by NME, explains that the Madrid edition was “one of the most complicated events that Primavera Sound has ever had to face "due to external difficulties weeks prior to the event.

Alongside this, organisers claim that here is no site available in Madrid next year for the festival to run that would be a fit for its audience demand, production requirements and musical showcase,

Almudena Heredero, director of Primavera Sound Madrid says in the statement: “As a consequence, although the evaluation of the festival was more than satisfactory on a musical level, the expectations we had were not fulfilled and the experience of the festivalgoers due to several logistical aspects was not the desired one.

“And that leads us to understand that, now, the conditions are not right for Madrid to have a Primavera Sound as it deserves in 2024”.

According to Alfonso Lanza, director of Primavera Sound, “we will continue to study the possibility of holding a Primavera Sound in Madrid because we are maintaining a continuous and constructive dialogue with the institutions of the city.
