TikTok sensation PinkPantheress has won BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2022.

The 20-year-old barely began releasing music a year ago, but her tracks have quickly captured the Gen Z imagination - featuring breathy vocals over throwback jungle beats.

Wet Leg, Yard Act, Baby Queen, Priya Ragu, Tems, Mimi Webb, Lola Young, Central Cee and former Mixmag cover star ENNY were among the finalists for the title.

“I’m honestly gassed, my dad’s going to be so happy!” PinkPantheress told the BBC.

“I had self-belief from the beginning but when other people start telling you stuff like this, it genuinely keeps you going.”

Fans of the singer were quick to praise her success in the comments of Radio 1's Instagram post - with DJ Charlie Hedges commented several 'praise' emojis.

Her sample-heavy style is a captivating blend of UK garage, two-step, pop, and alt-rock influences - which she refers to it as "new nostalgic".

She has said that she utilises TikTok as a "focus group," sharing samples of songs to gauge audience reaction before continuing with them.

PinkPantheress released the track 'Just For Me' in August, and Coldplay covered it at the Radio 1 Live Lounge in October, she released her debut mixtape, 'To Hell With It,' in the same month.
