​New York named the most exciting city in the world

The annual index created by the global publication Time Out has crowned New York City as the world's best city in 2019.

Based on surveys of more than 34,000 people in 48 different cities around the world, the index indicated that The Big Apple was the most sought-after city and the place people wanted to visit the most this year.

In second place is the Australian city of Melbourne, followed by our beloved birthplace of house music, Chicago. London missed the top three but managed to grab the number four spot while the City of Angeles, better known as Los Angeles, took on number five.

The techno capital of the world, Berlin - which recently pledged €1 million to help preserve its club culture and equip nightclubs with proper noise protection - came in at number eight with 84 per cent of the city's respondents describing their party and music scene "amazing".

"The cities at the top of our list are centers of diversity, diversion and dissent dotted across the world," says Time Out's Global Projects Editor, James Manning. "They are places where anything can (and does) happen, where new ideas, delicious food and world-class art and entertainment are born every day, and where people from all corners can come together with a shared civic identity."

With our three main offices in three of the top five cities, the Mixmag team can't help but feel that Time Out is onto something.
