Midland wins Essential Mix of the Year
Pete Tong announced the winner last night on BBC Radio 1
Last night Midland, aka Harry Agius, was picked for the top spot as BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix of the year.
Mixmag played a part in judging the entries alongside B. Traits, Kölsch, Pete Tong, DJ Mag, Dancing Astronaut, XLR8R and our former cover star and last year’s winner, Ben Klock.
We first heard the mix back in February and it features tracks from Four Tet, Jai Paul, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and his own track ‘Final Credits’ which was our favourite track of 2016.
The shortlist of nominees included Dusky, Leon Vynehall, Âme and Dixon, and Recondite who were all strong contenders for the prestigious title.
Midland said: “Not sure what to say but last night I was awarded Essential Mix of the year. Still in a state of shock really. I never worked harder on anything than I did on this. Thanks to BBC Radio 1 and the judges for this amazing honour.”
