Massive Attack collaborate with Adam Curtis on 'Mezzanine' tour visuals
The Bristol band will embark on the anniversary tour next week
The UK group Massive Attack are currently gearing up to embark on a massive three-month European and North American tour to celebrate 20 years since the release their iconic album ‘Mezzanine’. Today, the band has announced that they will be collaborating with award-winning documentary filmmaker Adam Curtis to create the tour's visuals.
Adam Curtis is the most influential documentary storytellers of our times, tackling subjects that explore the areas of sociology, psychology, philosophy and political history. The documentarian first linked with Massive Attack back in 2013 for the dystopian film essay Everything is Going According to Plan which debuted at the Manchester International Festival. The erratic and bold film uses Chernobyl, the Taliban, Goldman Sachs, Vladimir Putin, Bambi, Donald Trump, the Ceausescus and Jane Fonda to show us how technocrats and global corporations establishing an ultraconservative norm.
In a statement about his forthcoming collaboration with Massive Attack, Curtis had this to say:
"The show tells the story of the strange journey we have all been on over the past twenty years since 'Mezzanine' was released: How we have moved into a strange backward-looking world, enclosed by machines that read our data and predict our every move, haunted by ghosts from the past. A pleasure dome that makes us feel safe from the endless wars outside, and plays back stories both of dreams of glory and the fear of others. But in that safe world suspicion and distrust is spreading — like a virus. The air is growing stale. Everyone sees conspiracies everywhere. But maybe suspicion is control?"
