Marie Davidson and l’Œil Nu share new three-part single 'Persona'

Marie Davidson and l’Œil Nu have released a new three-part single via Ninja Tune.

Titled ‘Persona’, the record is a play on the concepts originally attributed to psychologist Carl Jung, which are used to describe the roles we play in order to adapt and fit into the environment around us.

Accordingly, the band present three ‘faces’ across the tracks, “one electronic, one fully guitar-oriented and one that can be played in a loop, for drifting away."

The release of ‘Persona’ is accompanied by a music video, constructed from the band’s own footage. It follows them through an imagined day of touring.

Talking about the video, the group explain: “We wanted to play with the idea of counterpoint to the Jungian persona archetype ("the mask we wear to make a definite impression upon others and conceal the true nature of the individual") referenced in the lyrics, we didn’t want a sophisticated and expensive HD music video depicting us as glamorous artists evolving with nonchalance in a highly controlled environment."

"Rather we wanted to offer a simple and honest document, shot ourselves with our phones, showing us as individuals, friends, musicians, in our daily lives, à l’envers du décor.”

Marie Davidson & l’Œil Nu have also announced a forthcoming string of live performances across the UK, EU, and Canada. One of the dates is at East London’s Village Underground in November.

‘Persona’ follows last year’s debut album ‘Renegade Breakdown’, which reinterpreted Marie Davidson’s sound and marked her self-proclaimed exit from club music.
