​“I love house music”: Everton manager Sean Dyche talks the Haçienda

Ex-Burnley and current Everton F.C. manager Sean Dyche has affirmed his love for house music in a recent interview with BBC Sport’s Kelly Somers.

In the interview, which went live on Saturday, February 18, Dyche told the football pundit that he once frequented the Haçienda before his career as a footballer.

“I love music,” he tells Somers when she asks what he listens to on the way to training. “I love house music, I love dance music, I love rave music. Back in the day, Haçienda and all that wasn’t it. Dropping all the ones and twos.”

The 51-year-old ex-footballer, who was recently appointed manager of Premier League club Everton in January, previously talked about his “eclectic” music taste in another interview with ESPN’S Mark Ogden.

“I got into that sort of mod turnover scene and then got into the New Romantics scene. Coming of age myself in the mid-80s and into the noughties, it was changing,” he said, also adding that the Madchester scene had a huge influence on his music taste.

“The rave scene was a big era for me, I was around 17, 18, 19 around that period, so that was important musically,” he added. In the same interview, Dyche spoke about seeing Jay-Z and Kanye in concert, and his hopes to one day head to Glastonbury Festival.

When taking a break from management last summer, Dyche told BBC Sport that he “shared a stage with the Happy Mondays” at Nottingham’s 2022 edition of Splendour Festival.

“The guys that run Splendour invited me and said do you want to come on to the wings of the stage?" he said. “I'm there with my son and he’s saying 'go on dad, you would love that. When you were my age you would have buzzed off that'.”

"I'm there with Jonny Owen and Vicky McClure and they were saying 'come on'. Then I did that weird thing, only going about a third the way on and thought 'I'm not going to the front of this stage. No chance'.”
