Grimes says she wanted to direct Dune but it was “not woke” enough

Grimes has revealed that she wanted to direct 2021’s Dune ahead of its release.

The singer spoke to Vanity Fair last week in an interview where she dropped several bombshell surprises, one of which when she revealed that she and Elon Musk had a secret second child named Y.

She also told the magazine that after reading the Dune books written by Frank Herbert, she dreamed of working on the film adaptation with “bold visions” for the movie franchise.

However, although the singer didn’t get chosen to star on the bill of actors or direct the film, she was assigned as an ‘influencer’ to work on it, she says.

“I was basically an influencer,” she said, adding that she’d dreamed of working on the adaptation for “years”, but was soon laid off by Warner Bros after she began working on the film.

The singer told Vanity Fair that she was let go by the production company “because of the whole Communist Manifesto thing”, a public dig she made at ex-boyfriend Elon Musk on social media where she posed with the Communist Manifesto.

According to Grimes, she was let go by the “extra-cautious” production company following the photo but understood their decision. “There are things that are deeply not woke in the ‘Dune’ universe,” she told the magazine.

Despite recognising that the film wasn’t “woke enough”, the singer said she cried the entire way through watching it because Timothée Chalamet’s character Paul reminded Grimes of her son, X.

“I was just crying my eyes out the whole movie. I just know X is going to have to go through all this really fucked-up shit that sort of mirrors Paul-type stuff,” she said, referring to her son’s future extraterrestrial adventures.
