Grimes and Elon Musk have announced a new addition to their family despite going their separate ways in 2021.

The 33-year-old singer, real name Claire Elise Boucher, told Vanity Fair that she and tech billionaire Musk have had their second child via a surrogate mother and named it "Y".

The child’s full name, she told Vanity Fair, is actually Exa Dark Sideræl Musk - the first part of which apparently refers to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS.

The baby’s second name, Dark, refers to “the unknown”, she said in the interview. “People fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.”

Despite now choosing a name, Grimes told Vanity Fair that she was “fighting for Odysseus Musk. A girl named Odysseus is my dream,” adding that she wouldn’t mind if Y decides to swap out her names in the future.

The baby’s third name, Sideræl, is said to be “more elven” and should be pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el”. The name is also a reference to the singer’s favourite Lord Of The Rings character, Galadriel.

In September last year, the couple announced that they were parting ways after three years. “We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms,” Musk had said.

Despite their split, the couple are now seemingly back in good stead. When asked by Vanity Fair whether Grimes could see herself on Mars with Elon in the future, she replied: “Hopefully”.

“Wow. Wow. Because, yeah, you’re right, he’ll probably go and then I’ll come later. Wow,” she said.
