Glastonbury's Keith Flint appreciation hour at risk of cancelation
"It’s causing upset and I never intended for that to happen"
Last week, Glastonbury announced its plans to host a special tribute in honor of The Prodigy’s late frontman Keith Flint at the 2019 edition of the festival.
The Prodigy were due to perform this year but cancelled all forthcoming gigs in the wake of Flint’s death in March.
The proposed tribute show, titled the Keith Flint Appreciation Hour, may no longer occur after a Facebook post from guitarist Gizz Butt - a guitarist who toured with The Prodigy and was tapped to DJ the event with an hour of classic Flint tunes - cited his concerns about the event on Facebook this past Saturday, May 4.
“I’m sorry to say this but I’m going to pull out of DJ’ing the Keith Flint appreciation hour," Butt wrote. "People are seeing it as an act of self-promotion and I never wanted that. Also, it’s getting so big with the press and I don’t feel worthy of it.”
In a second post, Butt continued to explain his reasons for standing down, saying: ”It’s due to the reason that it’s messing with the heads of some people that are closest to Keith and it’s causing upset and I never intended for that to happen. I’m sorry that I can’t do this. You know I’d like to but I want to respect other people’s emotions and wishes and for this reason, I must stand down."
Butt has since deleted his Facebook posts about pulling out of the event, leaving Glastonbury's Keith Flint Appreciation Hour in a very uncertain situation.
