Qatar is rumoured to have hired Glastonbury’s Arcadia spider for 2022 World Cup
The flame-throwing arachnid will make its debut at the football tournament this winter
Glastonbury’s beloved flame-throwing arachnid will be making a surprise debut at this year’s FIFA World Cup.
The Arcadia spider is uprooting from its usual home of Glastonbury Festival where the likes of Calvin Harris, Carl Cox, and Chase & Status performed atop it earlier this summer, and is said to be featuring amongst the action at this year’s World Cup tournament in Qatar.
The stage will be used for performances, according to a report from the Daily Mail, who cited a “well-placed source” saying that Arcadia could be one of few areas where fans will be allowed to drink alcohol.

The 50-tonne spider was recruited by Qatar from the Bristol company, according to the publication, to aid this year’s celebrations alongside DJs and performers.
Each year, the Arcadia spider returns to Glastonbury with a slew of drum ’n’ bass favourites, high energy sets and trailblazing DJs, though no word has yet come from Qatar on any performances slated at this year’s World Cup.
The Daily Mail added, however, that the stage could mark out a “fan zone” where punters will be allowed to drink alcohol across the tournament, though it looks like they will only be licensed to do so between the hours of 10:AM and 5:PM.

This area is reported to cost an enormous £75 a day to enter — before drinking spends — although this has yet to be confirmed.
With just two months until the big tournament, neither Arcadia nor the FIFA World Cup have confirmed any of these details.
