Eastern Margins announce second compilation album ‘Redline Impact’

Eastern Margins, a record label and collective championing “alternative Asian culture”, have announced their second compilation album, ‘Redline Impact’, slated for release October 16.

The announcement comes as the group shares the first single from the 17-track record, ‘BULLDOZER’ by the Tokyo-based J-pop group PAS TASTA.

The six-piece band composed ‘BULLDOZER’, a catchy, high-energy electro-pop track, after receiving the brief: “All life tends towards entropy. Embrace uncertainty. Distortion is human.”

This direction was also given to 20 other artists, spread over nine countries in four continents, to create a collaborative album that demonstrates the breadth and diversity of electronic music from the East and South-East Asia and its diaspora, while maintaining an overarching vision for the project.

Other musicians featured on the album include DJ Love (Philippines), dj g2g (Copenhagen), Yeek (Los Angeles), CLAIR (Melbourne) and No_4mat (NYC), along with LVRA (London), Billionhappy (London/Shanghai), and gyrofield (Bristol) from the UK.

The forthcoming album will be the second from Eastern Margins, following the release of ‘Redline Legends’ in 2021, a collaborative project that celebrated the various styles of electronic dance music coming out of South-East Asia, such as such as Indonesia’s Funkot, Vietnam’s Vinahouse and Philippine's Budots.

Expanding from this, ‘Redline Impact’ opens itself up to artists and music styles from the diaspora, with the aim of honing an Eastern Margins sound by focussing more specifically on organic electronic music that challenges standard definitions of the genre.

The arrival of ‘Redline Impact’ will come just a week after the collective debuts its very own festival at EartH Hackney. The 12-hour day and night event will see a selection of artists from the album perform including Shelhiel, DJ Love, LVRA, MEYY and gryofield.

Eastern Margins also recently announced a new festival celebrating East and South East Asian culture, Margins United, taking place in Hackney, London, on September 28. It will feature a wide array of music as well as visual art, food, creative installations, talks, workshops and other activities.
