“I like dance music”: Angela Rayner speaks out against criticism after clubbing in Ibiza

UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has spoken out against the criticism that she faced after she was spotted partying in Ibiza in August.

Last month, videos emerged online showing Rayner behind the booth at Hï Ibiza with FISHER, dancing to a remix of Gotye's hit song ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’.

Speaking to Sky News, Rayner explained that she was on holiday on the White Isle. “I take my job really seriously, I’m always in Parliament and I’m always doing what needs to be done, and I’ll continue to do that,” she said.

“You’ve got to have down time as well, everybody has to have down time. But I do take my job really seriously and I like to talk about what I’m doing to help other people.”

After videos of Rayner dancing at the Ibiza superclub appeared online, Tory MP Nadine Dorries penned an op-ed in the Daily Mail where she criticised Rayner’s “behaviour”.

“How ill-judged of Angela, how utterly adolescent of her – to have thought it was a good idea to party like it's 1999 when she's the deputy prime minister,” she wrote.

In response to the backlash she received online, Rayner joked: “I mean, you can criticise my dancing all you like, it is subjective! Yes, I’m working class, I like a dance. I like dance music!”

She also spoke about her friendship with Australian DJ FISHER, explaining: “FISHER is a really great guy, I’ve known him for a number of years.”

Angela Rayner has been known for her love of dance music, previously playing classic dance tracks during a charity DJ set at Manchester's Depot Mayfield warehouse in December 2022.
