DJ Paulette announces book exploring her 30-year career in electronic music

Welcome To The Club: The Life And Lessons Of A Black Woman, DJ Paulette's debut book, is to be published next year.

Part autobiography, part rallying cry, Welcome to the club is a joyous celebration of the recording industry, as well as an attempt to pay tribute to the often-overlooked women who keep it humming.

Welcome To The Club will chronicle the "candid story" of Paulette's 30-year career in music, including her battles with misogyny, racism, and classism in the music industry.

The book's goal is to confront these difficult facts, spark conversation, leave a legacy for others to learn from, and promote a brighter, more inclusive future.

DJ Paulette said "I tell my story with authenticity and humour, gathering together a stellar array of the electronic music industry’s icons, gatekeepers and fierce future forces who have joined me in this fantastic voyage to put the wider, underlying issues into perspective. It’s an epic and inspirational journey that I am excited to share with the world".

Tom Dark, commissioning editor of the book, commented “I’m delighted to be publishing Paulette’s book. This is a real project of passion for her, and a chance to pass on her learnings to the next generation of powerful creative women".

The book also features contributions from Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Dave Haslam, Norman Jay, and Mximag's DJ of the year Jaguar.

Paulette's career covers two decades and three nations, from the Hacienda to Homoelectric.

She's performed on a worldwide scale, been a resident at some of the world's most prominent clubs, and collaborated with a number of well-known DJs.

Welcome To The Club is currently slated for publication in 2023 by Manchester University Press.
