Creamfields launches new sustainability initiative ahead of next week's festival
'Cleanfields' is a three-year plan intending to preserve the 600-acre festival site
Creamfields has announced its new environmentally-focused initiative, Cleanfields, ahead of next week's festival.
Together with sustainability impact agency betternotstop, a three year plan aimed at preserving its 600 acre site in Daresbury has been drawn up. This year, there is a designated Cleanfields campsite, and a pledge introduced with crew on hand to engage with festivalgoers. There are even incentives on offer for those who are particularly proactive - more on those shortly - with the initiative ultimately encouraging attendees to adopt more environmentally friendly habits.

Creamfields are keen to dispel "festival myths" with its actions, particularly keen to emphasise that tents are, for the most part, not recyclable. This is reinforced in its Cleanfields pledge, which reads:
- Join Cleanfields: Keep your camp clean and take your tent home
- Only bring what you need: minimise what you bring and utilise onsite stores for essentials
- Consider your travel: Opt for public transport wherever possible
- Recycling points: Recycle materials at the recycling points throughout the campsites
"This year's Cleanfields initiative is not just a plan; it's a call to action for the entire dance music community," the festival writes in a press release. "Let's come together, enjoy the music, and make a positive impact on our planet.”
“There is a clear commitment from the whole Creamfields team to look after the land the festival is on and empower their attendees to do the same," add betternotstop. "I'm excited to see how we can work together in creating an amazing event for everyone.”

A key component of the initiative besides tent waste is recycling efforts, with the festival making particular effort to engage its attendees from this year onwards. Recycling points are promised across the site, and those who fill and return a full recyclable or non-recyclable waste bag can earn rewards including side of stage experiences, merchandise and even tickets to next year's festival.
Returning 50 cups to the cup exchange point in the arena will earn you free drink tokens, and as always, free water refill points are on offer once more.
