Azzecca channels cosmic club energies on new single 'IDK'

Azzecca has released her new single, 'IDK', via Higher Ground.

Following her remix of Mindchatter's 'Corporate Shakespeare' on Foreign Family Collective's partnership with Ninja Tune, this latest instalment offers a cosmic club-affair, embodying a sound increasingly noticeable in the Chicago producer and DJ's sets.

Across its five minutes, 'IDK' balances its powerful kick and relentless bass synth with a breaks-esque skip and spaced-out SFX. Its distorted, echoing vocal knits the elements together to result in a celestial, summer-flavoured cut.

"The idea for ‘IDK’ came to me one night while I was listening to music at home," Azzecca tells Mixmag. "The original 702 track came on shuffle and it felt like the perfect vocal to sample, since it had a moment in the early 2000’s but never became a really big record. I wanted to make something cosmic and groovy with it and the track actually came together quite quickly. After playing it out all summer and getting it ready for release, I decided it was missing something and added the acid lead that comes in on the drops. It really felt like the perfect final detail. So happy to have this one out."

'IDK' lands accompanied by the launch of Azzecca's party brand, Cosimea, intended to spotlight what she describes as the "slightly left of centre, cosmic vibe" and explore "forward thinking and other-worldly club sounds". Building on her women-safety-focused ethos of previous event series Dirty Disco, its intention to platform emerging talent kicks off on August 30 at Smartbar, in the form of an afterparty for ARC Music Festival Chicago.

“Although I owned the Dirty Disco name and trademark, a collective in Texas who’d previously used the name asked me for the use of it, and out of a love and respect for queer spaces in dance music, I was more than happy to hand over the trademark to allow them to grow and flourish,” she explains. “Now I am more than looking forward to the future, as I’ve taken this opportunity and time with my team to create a new project that feels like a true extension of the Azzecca brand. Cosimea will grow to be much, much more than an event series.”
