Canada’s Bass Coast Festival reveals theme and line-up for 15th anniversary

Bass Coast Festival has completed its line-up for the annual event’s next edition, celebrating 15 years in the heart of British Columbia.

Taking place from July 7-10 this summer in Merritt, Bass Coast marks its 15th anniversary with more than 150 artists across five stages. The bill this year includes a number of international names as well as local Canadian talent.

Bass Coast has now revealed the theme and line-up for its 15th edition spanning everything from jungle, dubstep, dancehall, drum ‘n’ bass, hip hop, R&B, and techno.

This year, Batu, Bianca Oblivion, Elkka, Interplanetary Criminal, Galcher Lustwerk, Black Loops, Nicola Cruz, Sicaria, Move D, Jay Carder, Special Request, Yu Su, DJ Lag and over 100 more are due to take to the stage.

“This is a dream line-up for both DJs and dancers,” says Bass Coast Co-Founder and Music Director, Andrea Graham. “We're thrilled to be commemorating our 15th edition with world-class musicians representing the current state of cutting-edge electronic music.”

Bass Coast Festival was first set up by an all-female team in 2009 near Vancouver, and now welcomes more than 6,000 people to the idyllic riverside location of Merritt each summer.

On top of the festival’s five stages, Bass Coast also hosts interactive workshops and dance classes, talks, and yoga and meditation sessions across three days.

The theme for this year’s event, ‘Avant Garden’, was revealed in an earlier announcement from Bass Coast detailing the interactive element of this year’s event.

“Avant Garden unites two defining elements of the Bass Coast experience: innovative art and the beauty of nature,” said Co-Founder and Creative Director Liz Thomson. “As a theme, Avant Garden challenges participants to interact with the festival through fashion and art using elements found in nature in uncommon ways.”

“We wanted a theme that promotes do-it-yourself fashion on any budget. Find a flower and put it in your hair, or come as a flower yourself, there are ways for everyone to get involved with this theme.”
