After a short teaser trailer at E3 this year, Atari has unveiled the look of its Ataribox console.

Bearing some similarity to the classic Atari 2600, the new Atari box will be released in two styles: one all black and red and the other maintaining the original wooden strip along the front. Both styles maintain the original’s ribbed design.

In an email to fans, Atari said: “Our objective is to create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.”

The new Ataribox will also include an SD Card slot, HDMI port and four USB ports.

In terms of games, the Ataribox is expected to operate similarly to the rebooted NES and SNES systems which feature titles built in to the console.

Atari says: “We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, pricing, timing. We’re not teasing you intentionally; we want to get this right, so we’ve opted to share things step by step as we bring this to life, and to listen closely to the Atari community feedback as we do so.”
