Amsterdam Dance Event to open 2024 edition with four one-off concerts

Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is set to kick off its 2024 edition in two months with a rare series of one-off opening concerts.

Launching the five-day festival on October 16, four immersive musical experiences will bring club culture to some of the city’s most impressive venues and feature a number of renowned artists including Oceanic and LUXE.

Set within the pristine glass walls of the Van Gogh Museum, Dutch singer-songwriter Eefje de Visser will perform an elegant, pared back rendition of her songs, with only a piano, guitar and vocalists to accompany her.

Meanwhile, at the Door Open Space warehouse, Cello Octet Amsterdam will play alongside eight, custom-made robotic arms created by audiovisual artist Nick Verstand. The robotic arms will create a spectacular light display while the orchestra is playing.

At Bimhuis, Amsterdam’s iconic jazz cafe, the boundaries of genre will be blurred when free jazz singer Greetje Bijma performs alongside electronic music artist Oceanic. Following this, British producer LUXE will play a live set that merges contemporary electronic sounds with classical sensibilities.

The final event in the series, the highly-regarded Metropole Orkest will return for its eighth year running, this time in honour of seminal hip-hop artist J Dilla. To celebrate 50 years of Dilla, the orchestra will be reimagining his music in a jazz and pop style, while collaborating with the multi-instrumentalist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson.

More information on the full ADE opening concert programme will be revealed over the coming weeks, with individual tickets available to purchase.

ADE, organised by The Amsterdam Dance Event Foundation in collaboration with Buma, is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to championing electronic dance music and its industry. Each year the event gets bigger and bigger, inviting visitors from 146 countries to experience over 2500 artists spread across almost 200 venues in Amsterdam.

This year, the line-up does not disappoint, boasting world-class names such as Honey Dijon, Four Tet, Peggy Gou, FJAAK, Major League DJz, The Martinez Brothers, Caribou, Jeff Mills, Benga and Anz, to name but a few.

Alongside DJ sets and live shows, festivalgoers can also take part in a number of other activities ranging from techno yoga to photography exhibitions to panel talks with the likes of Miss Monique and Chris Stussy.
