Midland stars on the cover of our February issue and delivers us a flawless club-primed hour for his exclusive Cover Mix. The London artist has asserted his status as a master of the mix format in recent years, winning BBC Radio 1's coveted Essential Mix of the Year gong in 2016 and our Compilation of the Year award in 2017 for his 'FABRICLIVE 94' effort. His Cover Mix marks another mighty instalment in his untouchable run of mixes.

Listen to it, check out the tracklist and read Midland talking us through the mix below.

“With this mix I wanted to try and capture the sound of me in the club during a long set in the part of the night when you and the crowd are locked in to a groove; a time when you’re able to make left turns, but it feels totally natural. As ever unreleased records sit alongside new records alongside records that came out 10/20/30 years ago. I definitely wanted to build to a more electro/rave crescendo in the middle of this, and try and plot a course through some broken stuff towards the end. I really enjoyed recording this one!”

1. Loidis ‘In The Place I Sit’

“One of those records I could listen to on a permanent loop. If I shut my eyes I’m high over the Tokyo skyline”

2. Com Sin ‘Persona’

“Forthcoming on my label Intergraded, some amazing broken sci-fi deepness”

3. Stereofuse ‘Royal Flush’

“This record nails the groove so effortlessly”

4. Tom VR ‘Lost On Seahaven Island’

“Another one off the next Intergraded record. This one feels like a lost Soul Capsule cut – so beautiful”

5. Youandewan & Huerta ‘Who Are You’

“Ewan just keeps on getting better. Here he’s joined by Huerta for a wiggly roller”

6. PG Sounds ‘Track 1’

“An a capella acid record and one of my favourites of 2018”

7. The Mole ‘Love Is The Way’

“Every time I dig through The Mole’s back catalogue I find a new gem. This is one of my recent finds”

8. THE FOCK ‘Shat Pop’ (Electro mix)

“Galcher Lustwerk making electro. Yes. Please”

9. Steve Bug ‘Magic Is Magic’

A 30-year-old Steve bug record that sounds a bit like new Floorplan – or does Floorplan sound like old Steve Bug? Discuss”

10. Pinch & Shackleton ‘Selfish And Greedy Life’

“This could be an anthem for 2018. From the very overlooked collaboration they did on Honest Jon’s”

11. Yak ‘Don Greno’

“Killer stuff on 3024. I like how he’s taken the percussive vibes of 2010/11 but given it a uniquely modern twist”

12. 214 ‘Windeye’

“Chris has quietly been amassing a great catalogue of modern electro. This is one of my favourites”

13. Answer Code Request ‘Zeitspielraum’

“Some technoid breakbeat science. Feels like every rave I went to as a teenager rolled into one”

14. Deadboy ‘Klint’

“Deadboy back with this swung techno vibe on his new label. Killer”

15. Solitary Dancer ‘Transmitting To Heaven’

“I released this a couple of years ago and felt it never quite got the recognition it deserved”.

16. Overmono ‘Quadraluv’

“Overmono are making some of the most exciting club music right now. This just keeps on building”

17. Heiko Laux ‘Consense Pt 2’

“I’ve wanted to put this in a mix for about three years but never found the right moment. Luckily, it fitted between Overmono and Calibre like an old friend”

18. Calibre ‘Break That’

“Calibre on a speed garage tip? Yes please”

19. Kosh ‘Casablanca Vice’

“Something I picked up the day I recorded this – and as it happens, the perfect end to the mix”
