XL Recordings tease Burial signing with new audio snippet

The Hyperdub regular looks set to release on the London label in 2024

XL Recordings has teased a brand new release from Burial.

The label released a 14-second snippet of a track, suspected to be new music from the elusive producer, on Twitter yesterday (January 1) with his trademark "cross" hidden behind the label’s logo.

The Hyperdub regular looks set to sign to XL, marking his first outing on the London label. It follows a string of recent releases outside of Kode9’s imprint, where he’s been releasing music for the past 19 years.

Fans on Twitter raised suspicions of a new album from Burial on the label. Mary Anne Hobbs called the potential new outing “a strong look for 2024”, while Oneman alluded to Burial’s logo in the snippet replying: “Burial signed to XL…Wow. This could be amazing”.

The producer released his last work in July, teaming up with Kode9 on a surprise collaboration titled 'Infirmary/Unknown Summer' on fabric Originals.

The collaboration between the two Hyberdub affiliates was released on July 21, 2023, after the label teased a joint release via cryptic billboards around East London.

The double-tracker marked the pair’s first link-up in some five years since the release of their acclaimed FABRICLIVE 100 mix, which marked the end of an era for the mix series after 17 years.

Consisting of Burial’s ‘Unknown Summer’ and Kode9’s ‘Infirmary’, the EP became available over the summer both digitally and on a limited edition vinyl in clear, black and silver.
