Cryptic Burial and Kode9 billboard appears in East London
It hints to a potential release from the pair on fabric’s flagship record label in July
A mysterious billboard hinting at a new collaboration between Burial and Kode9 has appeared in East London.
The cryptic poster was spotted in Shoreditch this week, reading: “FABRIC ORIGINALS: BURIAL X KODE9”, alongside a graphic of fabric’s logo.
The billboard was also marked with a date, July 21, 2023, hinting to a collaborative outing on fabric’s flagship record label fabric Originals in July.

If a collaborative release were to land, it would mark the pair’s first link-up in some five years since the release of their acclaimed FABRICLIVE 100 mix, which marked the end of an era for the mix series after 17 years.
Upon release, the 74-minute mix included a varied span of Hyperdub releases throughout the years as well as previously unreleased tunes from Klein, DJ Chap and TEDDMAN.
Since then, both producers have kept a low profile - Burial’s longest full-length release since 2007’s ‘Untrue’ landed last year in the form of ‘Antidawn’, sandwiched by two surprise EPs, ‘Shock Power of Love’ and ‘Streetlands’. The latter two were released on Kode9’s Hyperdub label.

Meanwhile, Kode9 has been working on a multi-faceted audio-visual project to go alongside his first new album in seven years, ‘Escapology’.
Kode9 and Burial’s collaborations date back as far as the 2000s. Their first joint track, ‘Distant Lights (Kode9 Remix)' from Burial, was the fifth release ever to hit Hyperdub in 2003.
fabric Originals first launched in September 2022 with a release from Octo Octa and Eris Drew, ‘A Day After A Night With U / Stars & Water’. Recent outings include TYGAPAW, LCY, I. JORDAN, and SHERELLE.
