Hip hop royality, Beastie Boys have collaborated with Sonos on a new limited-edition version of the company’s flagship speaker.
Sonos paired Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike-D” Diamond with San Francisco-based artist Barry McGee to design the Sonos Play:5 Beastie Boys edition.
The all-white speaker features the band’s name printed on the front grille in a striking red typeface. It will go on sale in December, priced at £499.
Proceeds from the collaboration will go to Peace Sisters and Little Kids Rock in the name of the Adam Yauch Foundation, along with a sizeable product donation.
“It’s no coincidence that the first song ever played out loud on a Sonos was ‘No Sleep till Brooklyn’. Beastie Boys are a revered and inspirational force in music, with a legacy we are incredibly grateful to support through this exclusive collaboration, celebrating the work and philosophies we respect enormously,” said Brian Beck, Sonos Global Head of Music.
The announcement coincides with the start of a book tour to publicise the the group’s new memoir, the Beastie Boys Book.
The Beastie Boys Book: Live and Direct tour will include shows in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and London. Each night will feature readings, conversations between surviving members Mike D and Ad-Rock, and a live score provided by Mix Master Mike. Fans will have the chance to win a signed version of the speaker at each event.
