Newcastle's Ghetec is back and stronger than ever

Ghetec is returning for the final few months of 2022 following its hiatus, putting together three events which puts emphasis on a fun, carefree, fair and inclusive clubbing experience for all involved.

Based in venues across Newcastle, previous parties have handed OK Williams and Elijah their debuts in the city, with support slots to local North East names such as Annie Marron, Becky Woodcock, and Ghetec founder Boo.

The first event of the brand's return is on November 4, which sees Azyr, SORAYA, Boo and bad internet take the reigns at World Headquarters, with the second being a Warehouse Party at sr44 Warehouse showcasing previous Mixmag cover star HAAi, Ben Prophet and Boo once more on November 19. December 3 sees the final Ghetec party of the year in collaboration with La Bonne musique, with Lucia Lu, Jacklyn and more getting involved.

"By treating all DJs the same, regardless of their status everyone feels included and valued," explains Boo. "In reality this means paying every DJ upfront - removing awkward conversations about money - inviting everyone to the pre show meal, covering taxis home for all artists and paying everyone as fair as possible.

"It's really cool that so far our audiences have been around a 50% male / female split, meaning the balance we’ve created through our lineups is being reflected throughout the audience too. Ghetec is not just another party, it's a party driven by principles, so when people are buying a ticket they’re supporting our ethos and local scene, not just a headliner from out of town."

And Boo is grateful that folk aligned with her intention of starting Ghetec in the first place: "It was driven out of a desire for a kinder and more sustainable approach to putting on parties, with emerging artists at its core," she tells Mixmag. "I wanted to listen to high-energy shifting club sounds whilst eating sweets and being surrounded by balloons. And as it turned out, so did others!"

Originally from, and still based in, Teesside in the North East, Boo is a producer, DJ and vocalist. During lockdown, she focused on her productions with her first track 'Air is my Element' being released on Anetha's Mama Told Ya imprint in July.
