New 140-capacity club Outer Heaven opens in New York
With two rooms, the music policy is inspired by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Red Axes and old school New York house and disco
A new 140-capacity club has opened in Manhattan, New York City, called Outer Heaven.
Located at 191 Chrystie Street on the border of SoHo and Lower East Side, it features two settings – a cocktail lounge fitted with a turntable and a “micro club” with a DJ booth and a small dancefloor, Resident Advisor reports.
The music policy is inspired by a range of styles, with influences cited including Andrew Weatherall, Red Axes, Romanian minimal and classic New York house and disco.

Outer Heaven will be open six days a week from 6:PM – closed on Sundays for the time being – with reservations for the cocktail bar available through the venue's website.
Artists who have been booked so far include Ivan Smagghe, Galcher Lustwerk, Tim Sweeney, Justin Strauss and Thomass Jackson, Theus Mago and Whitesquare.
The sound and lighting systems were created by Scott Ciungan and Nicolas Matar, who founded legendary New York venues Output and Cielo.
In a statement, the team behind Outer Heaven told Mixmag: "Outer Heaven was designed as a space that can fulfill many needs from its patrons throughout the week. Open at 6pm as a cocktail bar and date spot where you can enjoy cocktails, while listening to our curated selection of tunes and the occasional vinyl.

"Late-nights, the Listening Lounge transforms into a micro club, where the best selectors from around the world descend to provide the soundtrack within its intimate confines. Because of our limited occupancy we can curate our music program agnostic of any ticket-values or the perceived popularity of an artist, and based purely on their subjective musical merit," it continued.
"The club aims to distinguish itself simply by existing and allowing its guests to arrive at their own conclusions in terms of how it fits into their lives. We also have a comic-book shop in the front for anyone who is interested in taking home some good reads."
After the club’s first weekend, it posted on Instagram: “Successful maiden voyage. Staff needs their beauty sleep so we have offered them one night of snore leave.
“First sound tests proved productive, although some of the crew find the panorama booth’s symmetry somewhat unsettling,” it continued.
“DJs have established communication with our patrons via vibrant frequencies and most found them pleasing. Provisions running low, please send more sake.”
It comes after the news in December that a new, 500 capacity club SILO is set to open this month in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in a converted hangar. The opening party is set to take place this weekend (February 10), with Mike Servito, Kia and Vicki Powell on the line-up.
