Massive Attack played a DJ set for the Extinction Rebellion protest in London this weekend.
The surprise hour-long set took place on Sunday night at Marble Arch, one of the central London sites occupied by the climate change campaign group in the last week.
3D – or Robert Del Naja as he’s known to the rest of the world – is a member of the Bristol group and played for the crowd under the name “The Stroud Village Green Band”.
Following a speech from Greta Thunberg earlier in the day, 3D started off the night with a live remix of Massive Attack's climate change song ‘Hymn Of The Big Wheel’, which was first released in 1991 and features some rather appropriate lyrics: “The wheel keeps turning, the sky's rearranging / Look my son the weather is changing / On the surface of the wheel they build another town / And so the green come tumbling down.”
Following days of disruption in the Capital, Extinction Rebellion said the street party was a “tranquil moment”.
Marble Arch is the only permitted protest site and has functioned as the hub for Extinction Rebellion's recent direct action, with music being played into the night for most of this week of demonstrations.
