Legendary London venue The Social faces closure
The Social has less than two weeks to raise the £95,000 needed to keep its doors open
Live music venue The Social is under threat of imminent closure if it cannot raise the £95,000 needs to prevent redevelopment and keep its doors open.
The intimate West End hotspot, famed for helping launch the careers of Adele and Florence and the Machine, started a crowdfunding campaign this week to help raise the money.
“Rising rents and an offer to the building’s leaseholder from a cocktail and wine bar chain have put The Social under very serious threat”, explained The Social’s team via the crowdfunding page.
“The bar’s founders need to raise money to buy a controlling share in the venue from the leaseholder in order to keep The Social open,” they add. “Unless new investment is found in the next 2 weeks then the iconic venue will be forced to close its doors. We're asking you for help.”
The legendary venue is set to celebrate its 20th birthday this year, having hosted the likes of Aphex Twin, The Chemical Brothers, Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, Artwork, Nabihah Iqbal, Fatboy Slim, Four Tet, Hot Chip and more over the past two decades.
